What Can a Real Estate Coach Do for You?

Lately, I’ve been thinking about that expression “can’t see the forest for the trees”.  As in, you’re so focused on the details, you sometimes can’t see the big picture.  Especially if you’re stuck in the middle of it, trying to find your way out!

I really like this expression, because so often, that’s why my clients come to me for help. They feel so stuck in the middle of a problem that all the tiny little details are blocking them from finding the solution.  Worse, they usually don’t even realize it.

Then again, that’s why I do what I do.  As a real estate coach,  I’m here to help my clients see the bigger picture.  The picture that’s hard to see when they’re the ones stuck in it, so to speak.  It’s possible that, as you read this, you’re in this position right now.

Have you ever been in a position where it feels you’ve tried everything to solve a problem, but nothing is working?

Are you facing a situation where you know what you need to fix, but you can’t seem to make it happen?

Or are you facing an issue that seems so convoluted, you have no idea where to even begin working it out?

If so, then there’s a lot that real estate coaching can do for you.   Let’s take a look at four of the main ways coaching can help you see the bigger picture. You can find your way through the forest despite all those trees.

-Identify the source of your issues

Often, the reason people struggle to resolve issues is that they fail to identify their source.  Real estate agents are no exception.

It’s easy enough to fall into this trap.  I know I have in the past!  When an issue presents itself,  our immediate reaction is to fix it ASAP.  The trouble with thinking that way, though,  is we fail to look at what the origin of the issue is in the first place.  It’s that whole “can’t see the forest for the trees” thing again.  Without looking for the source of the issue,  people will never truly be able to resolve it.

For example, a broker-owner approached me a while back. He wanted me to help him increase his brokerage’s yearly sales.  His big concern was that his team had failed to hit their annual sales target.  He was determined to make sure that would never happen again.  Unfortunately, his team looked on track to fall short again that year.

So we started looking past each agent’s individual sales targets. Then we were able to realize that the cold and wet winter was to blame. The weather was discouraging would-be home buyers from house hunting.  Then my client was able to focus on finding creative ways to attract buyers to his listings.  When he did, he bumped up his entire team’s sales targets.

-Identify opportunities for growth

A good real estate coach can do more than find the source of your problems.  Coaching can also help you identify opportunities as well.

I’m going to once again go back to “can’t see the forest for the trees”.  Often when we’re trying to solve a problem,  we fail to see the opportunity that problem presents.  For real estate agents, in particular, there are many opportunities that come from problems!  As a coach,  I’ve helped clients identify opportunities that were staring them right in the face.  Sometimes,  it takes a helping hand to help someone see them.

I’ve had more than one client come to me because they were having troubles with agent retention.  What they wanted to do, of course, was to keep their agents from leaving.  They would usually tell me that that was their only goal.

So they’d often be confused at first when I asked them to describe their ideal agent to me. Once they got talking, though,  they’d realize that they now had a chance to focus on defining the right kind of agent for their team.

Once they did that,  they were able to focus on attracting the right agents for them.  Then it became much easier to figure out how to keep them.  So always remember: challenges can bring opportunities. A good coach can help you recognize them.

Real Estate Coaching for Brokers-

Choose strategies instead of just tactics

They’re often confused for the same thing, but strategies and tactics are two different beasts.  Many people – agents included! – fall prey to using only tactics to achieve their goals.  Without a strategy guiding those tactics, though,  they often fall short.

So how do you tell the difference between the two?  Think of tactics as the “how” your goal will be achieved…and strategy as the “what” that goal is in the first place.

A strategy is all about seeing the bigger picture.  And,  as I said in the beginning, it can be hard to see that bigger picture when you’re stuck in the middle of it.   A skilled real estate coach can help you identify your strategy.  More importantly,  a coach can help you identify why you need it in the first place.

-Create an action plan that’s just for you

Of course,  none of the three things I’ve discussed matter without a plan of action.  This is probably the most crucial thing a real estate coach can do for you.

A skilled real estate coach will put together a plan for you, then guide you through every step of the way. I’ve recently discussed the difference between coaching and training.  It’s key to remember that a coach will never just hand you an out-of-the-box program to follow.  We might have basic program structures in place. But,  we always customize them to our clients’ specific needs.

Your situation is unique from everyone else’s.  Your brokerage will be influenced by specific factors, too.  This means what worked for one of my clients might not work for you.  That’s why I come up with a customized action plan for every client,  every time.  More than anything, that is the most important thing a coach like me can do for you.

So where can you take things from here?  If you think you’re in need of a real estate coach, now’s the time to give me a call. In fact, I’m offering you a free 45-minute strategy session to help you get started.  Just head over to timewithbill.com to set up a time that works for you.  If you’re ready to see the bigger picture, then call me and find out what a coach can do for you.
